Multi-instrumentalists Lorraine and Bennett Hammond performed at the New Moon way back at the beginning: in 1989 and in 2002. It is wonderful to have them back for our thirtieth season celebration. They are still going strong and so are we!

Lorraine, renowned master of the Appalachian dulcimer, also plays banjo, mandolin and Celtic harp and is an expressive singer and songwriter. Bennett, a superb finger-style guitarist and recent convert to the five string banjo, names "the three Bs", Bach, the blues and Buddy Holly, as major influences.

Together, The Hammonds are versatile musicians and engaging entertainers. Their warm stage presence is punctuated with wry humor, and their command of their instruments and musical genres is without flaw.

The Boston Globe calls them "a dazzling, witty, eclectic, delightful duo."

The duo's repertoire ranges in style from classical through Celtic, blues and contemporary. They sing both traditional and original songs and can be heard on over thirty recordings as featured artists, or enhancing the work of performers including Archie Fisher, Lui Collins and Bob Franke.

Christine Lavin and Heidi Mueller are among the artists who have covered Hammond originals.

The couple live in Brookline, Massachusetts and their most recent releases, all on the independent folk label Snowy Egret Music are Jingalo Gypsy featuring the duo, Bennett’s Rockafolky Banjo Tapes and Lorraine’s Muddy River Suite.

"Quite simply acoustic music at it's finest," says Dirty Linen Review.

Bennett and Perkins

Kathy Bennett and Thom Perkins are singer-songwriters and guitarists who have been performing and recording as a duo since 2010. They hail from the White Mountains of New Hampshire and have been active in the New Hampshire Lakes Region folk music scene for many years.

Indeed, Bennett and Perkins have delighted audiences at coffeehouses, house concerts and community events throughout Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. They perform an eclectic mix of acoustic Americana including their original songs, and they continually refresh and add new material to their repertoire.

Opening for Jez Lowe, Bennet and Perkins performed at the New Moon in October 2012. We are so glad they are returning on January 20 to help celebrate our thirtieth season.

For more than fifty years Geoff Muldaur has been guitar picking and singing the blues for audiences throughout the world. Indeed, he needs no introduction for those who have followed folk music since the 1960's. He has toured and recorded with Maria Muldaur (to whom he was formerly married). Both Geoff and Maria performed as part of the Jim Kweskin Jug Band in the 1960's, then Geoff played with Paul Butterfield's band in the 1970's, and more recently Geoff has toured solo and with many other musicians.

He has also recorded with Bobby Charles, Jerry Garcia, Eric Von Schmidt, Bonnie Raitt, and John Cale, and has written musical scores for film and television. Today he lives in California. His recent album with the Texas Sheiks has received critical acclaim.
